About ESISS
Shared Services concepts are promoted by the government as a means of improving the quality and cost effectiveness of public services. This is being actively supported by HEFCE (Higher Education Funding Council for England) through an advisory group with financial opportunities to develop feasibility studies and to pump prime services.
ESISS developed from an initial response to the HEFCE shared services: invitation to submit expressions of interest in 2007 by Richard Smeeton then of Nottingham University.
Tony Brookes lead a HEFCE funded feasibility study running from October 2007 until submission May 2008. The feasibility study included business plan development and specialist VAT & financial advice for EMMAN Ltd. The University of Nottingham, Loughborough University, the University of Derby, the University of Lincoln, the Nottingham Trent University and De Montfort University all collaborated in this study.
Loughborough University was awarded, via due competitive process, the contract to provide this Shared Information Security Service on behalf of EMMAN Ltd. Loughborough IT Services already has a national and European reputation in the areas of roaming and wireless network technology
Loughborough University is one of the country’s leading universities, highly regarded, justifiably proud of its many achievements and recently named University of the Year by the Sunday Times for 2008/09.
